• Lancaster Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Founding

Ted Simpkins is a man who dreams big and acts with even greater conviction.  From the beginning, he identified the singular purpose for Lancaster Estate as producing a flagship wine to rival the best the world has to offer.

Our Alexander Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon more than meets this challenge.  Estate grown, produced and bottled in the manner of the great Chateaux of France, this Bordeaux style blend features the five noble grape varietals of the region and is a reflection of both the estate and its determined proprietors.  A wine of distinction easily identified by its enticing aromas and lush profile, the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a reflection of superior winegrowing, exceptional terroir and masterful winemaking.

In addition to the Cabernet Sauvignon base, this wine is always a blend with Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Deeply and richly colored, nuanced with finely textured tannins, this is a wine that is deliciously approachable upon release but will continue its evolution over many years in the bottle, rewarding those with patience enough to set aside a library selection.

  • 2009 Lancaster Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

A true representation of the unique terroir of our 53 acres of hillside vineyards. Our 2009 Estate Cabernet is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec, 6% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Layered and finely grained tannins create a dense, tightly knit structure and backbone that provides remarkable depth, concentration and purity. Aromas of black cherry, clove, nutmeg, and blackberry are followed by subtle notes of red plum, cassis and vanilla on the palate. The persistent and elegant finish exhibits hints of cocoa, dark fruit and a lingering minerality. Consistent with Lancaster Estate’s commitment to making wines of authenticity and place, all of our wines are estate grown, produced and bottled. Native yeasts are used for primary fermentation while secondary malolactic fermentation occurs naturally in barrel. To preserve the truest expression of our estate, the Lancaster Estate 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon was gently fined and then bottled unfiltered.

  • 2008 Lancaster Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2008 Lancaster Estate Cabernet Sauvignon had very low yields which resulted in dense concentration, layered tannins, and remarkable structure. This blend of all five classic Bordeaux varietals, fully represents the diverse character of the Estate’s hillside vineyards. Rich and focused tannins, followed with an artful balance of dark cherries, cassis, and vanilla. The long, layered finish has hints of dark Chocolate and Mocha, elegantly complemented with aromas of currant, nutmeg, blackberry and earthy minerality. To maintain authenticity of expression, the 2008 Lancaster Estate Cabernet was gently fined and bottled unfiltered.

  • 2007 Lancaster Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Estate grown, produced and bottled, our 2007 Lancaster Estate Cabernet is intense with dark stone fruit, blackberry, and white pepper with hints of chocolate dust. The red plum and heritage rose aromas compliment finely textured tannins while the earthy finish rounds out the toast and complexity. Aged 28 months in French oak barrels, this wine was bottled unfiltered. 3,134 cases produced.

Mild winter conditions and a dry spring led to early bud break. Summer was mild with a hot August that encouraged ripening and as summer came to a close – it appeared to be an earlier harvest. The weather cooled and things slowed to a snails pace – pushing us into our usual late October conclusion. Yields for all Bordeaux varietals were extremely low – yet the resultant wine has amazing concentration and balance.
